Five areas, five questions each

The questions are written for life in BiH: convertible marks, local banks and the kind of offers that land in your Instagram DMs.

A

Numeracy and interest

Compound interest, inflation and what happens to money over time.

With 3% inflation, 1,000 KM buys what 744 KM buys today after ten years.

B

Risk and return

Why a higher possible return always carries higher risk, and how to spread it.

If someone promises high returns with no risk, one of those two things is not true.

C

Capital markets

Shares, bonds, funds and who supervises the market in BiH.

BiH has two stock exchanges, in Sarajevo and Banja Luka.

D

Fraud protection

How to spot a fake offer before you send any money.

No bank or broker will ever ask for the code you got by SMS.

E

Everyday money

Savings buffer, budget, cards, overdraft and loans.

A buffer of three to six months of basic costs is a good target.

How much can your savings grow?

Move the sliders. This is an example, not a promise: the real return can be lower, higher or a loss.

50 KM
10 yrs
5 %

Interest is compounded monthly. Taxes and fees are not included.

You end up with

7,764 KM

Your deposits: 6,000 KM

Earned from interest: 1,764 KM

110 yrs

The same money kept in a drawer, with 3% inflation, will only buy as much as today's 4,465 KM.

What you get at the end

  1. 1

    A score for each area

See what you're good at and where the gaps are.

  2. 2

    Every question explained

The right answer and why. Nothing is revealed during the test.

  3. 3

    A retest code

Come back in a month with the same code and compare. We never ask for your name or e-mail.

Questions

Is the test really free?

Yes. The project is funded by the EUonAIR programme, so we sell nothing and there are no ads.

Do I need to know anything about investing?

No. The test is made for people who have never invested too. If you don't know an answer, choose I don't know. It doesn't lower your score more than a wrong answer would.

What do you do with my answers?

We store them without names, e-mails or IP addresses and use them only to research the financial literacy of young people in BiH. We publish only aggregate numbers.

Is this investment advice?

No. The test and everything here are for learning. Decisions about your money are yours.

What is the retest for?

At the end you get a code. When you come back in four to six weeks, the code links both results so you can see what changed.

Who is behind the project?

A team from the Zagreb School of Economics and Management (ZSEM), supported by the EUonAIR Migrants Empowerment Program.

Got ten minutes?

Answer honestly and choose I don't know when you don't. That's what makes the result worth something.
